About the role:

FleishmanHillard Ottawa is currently accepting applications for an Internship within our Public Affairs/Government Relations group, to begin in October 2017:

Title: Intern

Salary: $500/weekly

Start Date: October 2017 – TBC

End Date: April 2018 – TBC

Reports To: Vice President

Responsibilities:

  • Daily scanning of newspapers for coverage of client and industry news
  • Media monitoring for client issues
  • Monitor the Legislative process including House and Senate committees
  • Assisting in the monitoring of government announcements and media coverage of public policy issues of relevance to the organization
  • Conducting research and performing environmental scans on government and party positions, stakeholders and stakeholder positions; media issues and influencers, etc.
  • Providing background research support to the Manager and other department staff
  • Assist in the preparation of written materials to support outreach to/with: government (political, legislative and staff); stakeholders; media, etc.
  • Assist in Public Affairs, Communications, Issues Management, Media Relations, and other Government Relations and outreach initiatives
  • Media list development
  • Proficient with social media platforms
  • Participation in Brainstorming sessions
  • Writing – primarily media materials such as fact sheets and new releases
  • Drafting correspondence to stakeholders and government
  • Administrative duties as required

 

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Must have strong PC skills (MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer and PowerPoint)
  • Highly adept and capable of conducting research and environmental scans via electronic and digital media
  • Possess a “Team Player” attitude
  • Remain calm under pressure and have excellent multi-tasking skills
  • Quick learner, and enjoys a fast-paced environment
  • Possesses strong problem solving ability, attention to detail, and a well-defined work ethic
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills – Demonstrating a capacity to break down and communicate complex subjects effectively
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Solid understanding of the Federal government
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Must be a self-starter– someone who also asks “what else can we do?”
